Enjoy a Low Sugar Easter
Why Easter is synonymous with chocolate is anyone's guess, but it is and it’s traditionally a time where chocolate is everywhere so even the most diligent of healthy eaters has little chance to stay on track.
Add in hot cross buns, Mini Eggs, Easter themed cakes, Creme Eggs and sweets and you’re surrounded with it!
With a lot of mainstream chocolate brands, the chocolate content is now so low that they cannot legally call your chocolate a chocolate bar.
They have also replaced the milk with palm oil, which is incredibly inflammatory (as is sugar).
Just like at Christmas, we can have so much ‘left over’ chocolate that it’s either binge eaten, or eaten over a number of days and weeks making reducing sugar really difficult.
So here are 5 ways that you can enjoy a lower sugar Easter and help to keep your sugar intake lower.
Look for better quality Easter eggs, preferably dark chocolate eggs that are low in sugar and contain no palm oil
Opt for mini hot cross buns (and eat only one!) keeping your sugar intake a little lower
Make yourself some alternative Easter treats - you could use my Low Sugar Snickers recipe for inspiration
As soon as you’ve finished your dessert or Easter Egg, head out for a 10 minute walk. This really does help to lower your blood glucose levels
Keep exercising over the Easter break, as working your muscles also helps regulate your blood glucose
Sticking to these small, simple tips can really help you develop healthy habits around any holiday period, so you feel like you can enjoy it but not allow sugar to overtake your body and mind.
